Solarplexus reignites contemporary hip-hop through merging human expression and electronics. Each moment—a movement modestly sampled, synthesized, and sequenced in a red-brick terraced house in Leeds, West Yorkshire—illustrates Sterling's surroundings, deeply surrounded in 90s alternative hip-hop, abstract artwork, and his father's contemporary dance circle.
Production began just a street away – and during the passing of – New York's Emcee MF Doom, coincidentally made with the intention of drawing together the internet beat movement: a tight-knit community stemming from Los Angeles. The movement included artists such as Cazal Organism, son of Mellow Man Ace, and Elaquent of Mello Music Group, whose words and work encouraged Sterling to kick-start his music career in the early 2010s.
Solarplexus is dedicated to the street dancer, the poet, and the kids kicking cans, quietly observing and trying to figure out life. It is for the listener of DJ Shadow, J Dilla, and Madlib. It's for the family in Brooklyn, Japan, Brazil and Korea, who have respected my music for some time. It's for Steve – Dad, thank you.
"Great vibes, great body of work... you see with this artist you always find a nice surprise! Here, Louis Sterling presents a body of future hip hop vibes mixed together with a blend of digital soundscapes... into the future, right now. Showcasing his production skills, writing, and creative moods, I can totally imagine cruising around, windows down blasting this out. Respect! – Ability II"
